LAIA Project Faculty Training Workshop

TIRANA, ALBANIA On September 10–11, 2026, Mediterranean University of Albania successfully hosted an international faculty training workshop under the framework of the LAIA (Laboratory on Artificial Intelligence in Albania and Kosovo) project (Project No: 101128818). Co-funded by the European Union, the LAIA project aims to strengthen AI education across the region through curriculum development, infrastructure, and ongoing faculty empowerment.

Organized under Work Package 4 (Programme Rollout & Delivery - Deliverable D4.9), the two-day event focused on providing proactive support and pedagogical training for higher education faculty ahead of and during the official program rollout.

Key Sessions & Highlights

Pedagogy in AI Education: Professor Ilias Magklogiannis from the University of Piraeus delivered an insightful session titled "Introduction to Pedagogy Methods in AI," exploring structured teaching methods for complex artificial intelligence concepts.

Academic Alignment: Dr. Christina Kontogoulidou (University of Piraeus) presented on the implementation of the Bologna Process within specialized Master’s programs to ensure academic compliance and regional integration.

Advanced AI Topics: Prof. Sadok Ben Yahia from the University of Southern Denmark led a technical session on "Injecting External Knowledge: A Deep Dive into LLMs," addressing state-of-the-art developments in Large Language Models.

The workshop concluded with interactive evaluation sessions and a comprehensive project recap led by the University of Piraeus (UPRC) to outline upcoming implementation tasks. All training materials and additional digital resources will be made available to faculty via the project’s dedicated Digital Learning Platform repository.
