UNIVERSITY OF PIRAEUS

The University of Piraeus (UniPi) was founded as “School of Industrial Studies” in 1938 and today it is consisted of 4 Schools and 10 Departments, covering a wide range of study fields related to Management, Economics, Informatics, International Relations etc., while it employs over 350 faculty members and administrative personnel and serves over 14.000 students.

A major target of the UniPi’s strategy is to elevate the Institution to a highly ranked modern internationalized University and a respectful international focal point in research, teaching and training covering the field of all departments.

The UniPi, through the scientific fields it covers, presents extensive research activity, high participation in European projects, international networks and collaborations with the public and private sector.

As far as the Erasmus Program is concerned, UniPi participates in the Program since its beginning in 1987.  In 2007 the University of Piraeus was awarded the Erasmus Extended University Charter (31704-ERP-1-2014-1-GR-EPPKA3-ECHE) which allows the University’s participation in any program action and the other European Projects. UniPi has also launched the extended pan-European charter and the new Erasmus programme up to 2027.

The University of Piraeus a offers a postgraduate  programmes focuses on the latest advancements in Computer Science and New Technologies, with a special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence. It aims to foster research and meet the scientific needs driven by rapid technological developments at both European and international levels.

Additionally, an e-learning component of this programme enhances digital competences for graduates and education professionals, adapting to the evolving field of Digital Education. This e-learning segment is part of Greece’s oldest postgraduate programme in this domain, established in 2004, and is well-regarded for its successful graduate employment outcomes, with many alumni in leadership positions and strong industry connections.

Dr. Ilias MAGLOGIANNIS Professor

UNIPI

Dr. Ilias Maglogiannis is Professor in the Dept of Digital Systems in the University of Piraeus and Director of Computational Biomedicine Lab (www.cbml.ds.unipi.gr). He received a Diploma in Electrical & Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) Greece. He was Faculty in the Dept of Information and Communication Systems Engineering in Univ. of the Aegean and the Dept of Biomedical Informatics in the Univ. of Thessal. In 2013 he joined University of Piraeus. He has been principal investigator in many European (i.e. H2020: GATEKEEPER, CROWDHEALTH, AGILE, UNCAP, FP7: e-LICO, INHOME, FP6: UNITE, NOMAD, TELEMED, FP5: MOMEDA, INTRACLINIC) and National Research programs, while he has also served as external evaluator in R&D projects for the EU, the Government of Hong Kong, France, Portugal, Czech, Cyprus and Greece. His published scientific work includes three (3) books (Springer, IOS press and Morgan Claypool Publishers), 130 journal papers and more than 200 international conference papers. Dr. Maglogiannis has received more than 8000 citations on his published work (h-index = 42). He served as Associate Editor for the Journals IEEE Biomedical Health Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, Journal on Information Technology in Healthcare and he is editorial board member of Personal and Ubiquitous Computing, Healthcare Engineering and Intelligent Decision Technologies. He has also served as guest editor in 8 international journals (IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology, Oncology Reports, Simulation, Applied Intelligence, Personal and Ubiquitous Computing, Journal Universal Access in the Information Society, Neurocomputing, Evolving Systems). Dr. Maglogiannis is a Senior member of IEEE, SPIE, ACM etc and serves also as affiliated faculty in the CS Dept Univ. of Texas at Arlington USA. Dr. Maglogiannis is also since 2014 president of IFIP Working Group WG12.5 (AI Applications).
