Erasmus Days and LAIA

On October 14th, from 10:00 to 14:45, the Mediterranean University of Albania (MUA) in Albania
organized an EU-validated event as part of Erasmus+ Days.
As a university focusing on international and sustainable development, MUA has built strong
partnerships across Europe through the Erasmus+ Programme. Over the years, MUA has effectively
utilized Erasmus+ initiatives to promote a global learning environment, ensure equal and equitable
access to opportunities, and respect the principles of non-discrimination, transparency, and
inclusion. This event was a perfect platform to communicate and disseminate the Erasmus+
Programme.
The event kicked off with an information booth situated in the university where students met with
the International Relations Office and found out about the opportunities offered to them through
the Erasmus+ Programme. The second half was dedicated to formal presentations for the students
and staff so those interested could ask further questions and gain additional information.

Erasmus+ Cluster Meeting and LAIA presentation

Universum International College

The “Digitalization in Higher Education” cluster meeting will provide participants with
valuable insights, tools, and strategies used in digital transformation by Erasmus+ projects in
capacity buildingin higher education in Kosovo.
By the end of the meeting, attendees will have a clear understanding of the digitalization
landscape in Kosovo and the necessary steps to integrate digital solutions effectively in higher
education.
A set of recommendations will be developed and compiled into a comprehensive report
following the meeting.
This report will guide higher education institutions, policymakers, and other stakeholders in
overcoming the challenges of digitalization, promoting sustainable and inclusive digital
practices in Kosovo’s higher education sector.
The ultimate goal is to ensure that Kosovo’s higher education system is well-equipped to meet
the demands of the digital age, providing students with the skills and knowledge they need to
succeed in a rapidly evolving global environment.

Presentation of the LAIA project by the project coordinator, Vice-Rector of the University of Elbasan Prof.Dr. Elvira Fetahu

In informative sessions held with the academic staff of the university, Prof. Fetahu, presented the LAIA Project in which the University of Elbasan is also participating, marking an important step towards cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

This project, funded by the Erasmus+ KA2 CBHE Program of the European Union, has brought together various universities from Albania, Kosovo, Greece and Denmark with the aim of creating master’s level curricula in the field of artificial intelligence in the region, enabling the formation of artificial intelligence experts.

The University of Elbasan “Aleksandër Xhuvani” is hopeful about the positive impact that this project will have in strengthening educational capacities, in order to be contemporary with the demands of the international market, as well as with the development of technology.

The project for the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory is presented

The Mediterranean University of Albania, as a partner in the LAIA-“Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence in Albania and Kosovo” project, participated today in the initial meeting for the launch of the project at the University of Piraeus, Athens. The meeting gathered representatives from all partner universities such as: University of Southern Denmark, Agricultural University of Tirana, Polytechnic University of Tirana, University of Elbasan, Universum College in Kosovo and University of Prizren. This meeting of a successful space marks success in the field of artificial intelligence in the region and a sign of a common Master’s level curriculum, which has created the formation of health in the field of artificial intelligence in Albania and Kosovo. This project for another good step will be successful in its program.

In the framework of the LAIA dissemination activities, was organized the seminar addressed to students. The aim was to inform graduating students about the LAIA project presentation of the goals and objectives of this project.

Seminars were held before the graduation sessions with “Business Informatics” and “Management Information Systems” students of the Faculty of Economy and Agribusiness, AUT. The students have been curious, active and collaborative, interacting positively with the project team and appreciating new opportunities and tools offered by the project.

By equipping students with the right tools to meet market demands and align with EU internal and international standards, the project seeks to enhance the quality of life and employment opportunities, fostering systemic growth in Albania and Kosovo.

Met with the Agency of Accreditation in Kosovo where the project is presented and discussed the procedure for dual diplomas through this project. We met on 23.05.2024 with Hasnije Iljazi the director of the accreditation board and Naim Gashi the director of the agency of accreditation. In the meeting from the University of Prizren was Prof.Asoc.Dr.Zirije Hasani the Dean of Faculty of Computer Science.

LAIA Project presented in Albanian National Seminar

The LAIA project was presented in a meeting with higher education staff from all public and non-public universities in the country, representatives of Ministry of Education, etc. The meeting took place online and it was organized by the National Erasmus+ Office of Albania as part of the Technical Assistance Missions funded by the European Commission. Elton Skendaj, project manager of LAIA for Mediterranean University of Albania, in his capacity as Higher Education Reform Expert, presented the LAIA project, the benefits that the project will bring for HEIs, students, and businesses in the country. The participants asked several questions on the key objectives of the project, the institutions involved, etc.

Meeting of the LAIA Steering Committee

The steering committee meeting among the LAIA project partners took place on June 10, in an online session. The representatives of all partner organizations in the project discussed various aspects of the project implementation. The representative of Mediterranean University of Albania informed the partners that they were going to submit an application for the opening of a scientific master program in Artificial Intelligence as foreseen in the project. The partners also discussed hat the next partners meeting will be held in the premises of Mediterranean University of Albania sometime before November 2024. Furthermore, the partners agreed on several technical aspects, implementation of WP, list of deliverables to be uploaded, etc.
